Mission
The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Council promotes equality of opportunity for and increase the visibility of contributions made by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender attorneys and sponsors legal education programs relating to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and other related issues
History
On February 14, 1997, the State Bar of Arizona's Board of Governors established the Gay & Lesbian Task Force to conduct a study of the State Bar of Arizona and the Justice System to determine whether there is discrimination against gays and lesbians and, if so, to make suggestions for remedies. The Task Force completed its survey of judges, attorneys, professors, law students and members of the gay and lesbian community. A report including recommendations was written to the Board of Governors.
